Wonderful Conclusion to a Wonderful SeriesThe conclusion to The Rulers of Hylor Trilogy, this one makes me cry, it delves even more into the legends of the world of Hylor. Finally questions of two previous books are answered. It also has wonderful way of showing a character's change from arrogant to wise.

I would wish for more seasonsI was both thrilled and sad to see this fourth Couch/Plourde creation show up at my local book store. This is another lovely testiment to the wonders of nature and the importance of family. "Summer's Vacation" also hints at the responsibilities of our youth and their very apparent influence in their world. If I could, I would wish for more seasons so as not to see this beautiful collaborative team complete their circle.

I noticed that the dog Sandy is the same as Sandy the super dog in "DOG DAYS". I really enjoy all of your books. I saw the book "DOG DAYS" and I thought it would be good and I was right. So that led me to read more of your books. I am thinking of getting a few from the AMAZON web site what would you recommend? Please e-mail me at kthomas@ chipsnet.com

The Summerboy

The best in the seriesI've read all of Bobby Marks adventures and this is his hour of humanity. Bobby's 18 now and finds work at the local laundry service where he thinks his summer will be full of girl's and bar fights. He's hired by Sinclair, the new owner who he believes to be a great guy. Joanie returns from Europe as her family has gotten richer from invetments. Bobby goes to a party at her house and sees Sinclair with a woman who's not his wife. Bobby's summer gets harder when his father begins to grow sicker after an operation. As he's dealing with this, Joanie has him lie for her as to where she is to her parents. As Bobby goes on route with one of the other workers, he sees Sinclair with a girl and kiss her. As the girl turns, Bobby sees that it's Joanie. A week later, Joanie tells him she's pregnant. A day before, Bobby learned that his father is getting worse and the workers of the laundry keep getting hurt by faulty equiptment. Now Bobby has to decide what to do to save his friend and how to lead the local workers.
This book delt with darker elements then the previous two such as adultry and abortion in the 50's but Bobby rises to all the challenges thrown his way showing he has matured from "The Crisco Kid" to "The Summerboy."

Summersaults

The Very Best Time of the Year.....Summer, the very best season of the year, is captured in Douglas Florian's marvelous new poetry collection, Summersaults. These 28 poems evoke the sheer joy of sizzling, shimmering, simmering, hazy, hot summer days, and the carefree fun of baseball, swimming, buzzing bees, and annoying flies, ocean waves, ice-cream cones, scooters, bikes and roller skates, fireflies, jumping rope, thunderstorms, and campfires. Mr Florian's delightful, engaging, rhyming verses are full of imagery, wordplay, energy and puns, and complemented by his cheerful childlike artwork in summer tones of bright greens, yellows, and blues. Together word and art deliver the magic of summer in all its simple splendor. Perfect for children of all ages, Summersaults is a charming little treasure, best read aloud and shared, that can take the coldest, snowiest day of the year, and turn it into a blazing, sun-filled day at the beach.

Swallow Summer
Published in Paperback by Bison Bks Corp (August, 1998)
Average review score:

Great book for nature lovers!Cliff Swallows are the life passion of Charles and Mary Brown. Every summer for the past fifteen years Charles and Mary have left the University where they are teaching and journeyed to Ogalalla, Nebraska to study these fascinating colonial birds. In his book, "Swallow Summer", Charles Brown gives the reader an insight into the day to day life of a research biologist. This true story of a summer filled with birds and data collection is told in an intriguing and humorous manner.
Brown lets the reader look into not only his life, but also the life of this fascinating small bird. Cliff Swallows nest in large colonies in culverts, cliffs, and other such areas around Lake McConaughy in Nebraska. During the summer Charles and Mary deal with not only the Cliff Swallows, but also a number of young research assistants from all over the world who come to Ogalalla to study research biology with the Browns. Often the antics of the research assistants are as amusing as those of the Cliff Swallows.
know her. I am usually predictable, but the ending surprised me.
The writer is hopelessly romantic, and intelligently mysterious. I would highly recommend this book, and am now looking forward to another.
